Types of Ants We Treat

Red Ants

Fire ants, also known as ‘red ants’ are an aggressive species of ants that can inflict painful stings on humans and pets. Their heads and bodies are coppery brown and they reach 2mm – 6mm in length. They are often found next to or under objects (timber, rocks or bricks) and pots.

Black Ants

Black ants are one of the most common ant species found in Australia. Black worker ants are dark brown and are 3mm – 5mm in length. While the black queen ant is mid-brown and can reach up to 15mm in length. Black ants often nest outdoors in soil, hollowed trees, grass or under the pavement. They can cause structural damage to your property by shifting the foundation and sand.

Bull Ants

Bull ants are one of the most aggressive species of ants. Bull ants are black with hints of red on their abdomen. They reach 8mm – 40mm in length and usually nest outside (under the soil, rocks, logs and gardens). They have aggressive behaviour and will often attack humans/pets that are near their nests. Their stings are venomous and can be lethal to humans.

Signs of Ant Infestation

There are often clear signs that your property has an ant infestation. Seeing a large number of ants indoors or outdoors is usually the first sign that you may have a problem. If they are found in areas with food, you should book a pest inspection as soon as possible to avoid the infestation worsening. As ants will often leave a pheromone trail to potential food sources to attract other ants. An ant nest, though difficult to spot is an indicator that you may be dealing with a large number of ants near or in your house. Ant nests often look like a small pile of soil however, some species create nests in walls and dark spots around the property.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    • How much does pest control cost for ants?

The cost of ant pest control can vary depending on the type of ant (red ants, black ants and bull ants etc.) and level of ant infestation. It’s crucial that we have an on-site inspection so we can provide an accurate quote. During the inspection, we will identify the type of ant and all the nest locations.

    • Can a pest control get rid of ants?

A pest control technician will seal and secure your property before treatment. They will then proceed to exterminate the ants from inside your property. They will then follow the ant trail back to the colony and remove it to avoid any chances of reinfestation.

    • How do I get rid of an ant infestation in my house?

As ants leave the scented trails to food sources that other ants from their colony follow. Sweeping and mopping the surface may not be enough. In order to get rid of ant infestation, you must remove the colony and queen ant. Experienced pest specialists can locate all trails to the colony and remove their access.
